I am 24 and currently in the second year of my PhD at the University of Manchester. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, camping, reading and generally relaxing.
I graduated with a 1st class Bachelors’ degree in Biomedical Science and hold a Masters’ degree in Medical Microbiology from the University of Manchester. I am definitely the scientist that goes home and reads more science! Recommendation to any future microbiologists; Spillover by David Quammen or I Contain Multitudes by Ed Yong. My Typical Day:
A typical day for me starts early, getting the bus to work. I will then sit down start up my computer and make a nice coffee. I will then move over to the lab where I will check if I have everything I need for my experiments. I will start any experiments that I need to do before moving back over to my computer and writing up what I have done through the day.

I try to split my time equally between the lab and my computer so I don’t spend too much time doing one thing. I will get to work for about 10am, make a coffee and set my work space up for the day. Then I will move over to the lab and check the equipment I need to for my experiments. I will take a short break, then do any lab work that needs doing for the day. When I have finished in the lab I will move back to my work space, where I divide my time between meetings, data analysis and planning experiments.
