I know it seems like our solar panels are super small (3 cm x 3cm) but we have a really good reason for making them this small.

Firstly, a lot of the work we do is trying new ways to improve solar panels and making smaller solar panels is much quicker and cheaper than making them big. This way if what we try doesn’t work we haven’t wasted too much time/money making big solar panels.

Secondly, it’s actually really difficult to make very big solar panels in our labs. These are normally made in factories, by companies. We just want to work out how to make better solar panels – we aren’t trying to make a real panel which people can buy. If we find something which will work we will get a company to help us make our ideas into a product.
