A biochemist is someone who uses chemistry to try and understand biology. We try and work out how life works at the molecular level – so looking at all the different chemicals involved and how they react with each other. Biochemists often work on making new medicines, understanding how diseases like cancer work or understanding how our DNA makes us the way we are.

I work on the biochemistry of plants by measuring all the chemical reactions happening inside plant cells. I’m trying to figure out which reactions we could change using genetic modification to make super plants that grow really well in future climates!
